Data Centers
The Data Center Threat (Project Spalding)
The Situation: In late 2025, our community faced a critical turning point with the proposal of “Project Spalding”—a massive industrial data center targeting 132+ acres near High Falls Road and Alicia Drive.
Why We Are Concerned:
Noise & Impact: Residents in similar counties report constant low-frequency noise, disrupting the peace of raising animals and outdoor living.
Resource Drain: These facilities consume millions of gallons of water daily and place immense strain on our local power grid.
Zoning Integrity: Placing heavy industrial “hyperscale” facilities near residential and agricultural zones threatens the rural character of our county.
Status: Following the heated Board of Commissioners meetings in these past few months of 2025, we are maintaining a vigilant watch on all rezoning permits and “text amendments” that might allow this project to proceed without proper state oversight.

The slides below were presented at the Board of Commissioners’ zoning hearing on October 23rd. It did not make a difference to the Board. They dismissed our dozens of sources listing fact after fact of why this is of no benefit to their constituents.
